WINTER MUSIC

The trees are bare and look like their roots, the world's inside out and there are a bunch of cds that compliment the scenery

My all time favorite winter cd is Danse Manatee by Animal Collective, it sounds like if the wind and the dirt had a nightime dance party, it's one of the first Animal Collective cds and is kind of abrasive but that's why its perfect
DOWNLOAD HERE

Also you gatta listen to Spirit They've Gone They've Vanished which is the first Avey Tare solo cd with amazing Panda drumming, it's similar to Danse Manatee with the high pitched sounds and abrasiveness but hidden behind those sounds you have some great melodies and songs

Burial's self titled is another great listen as most of you already know DOWNLOAD HERE

The Mars Volta's Bedlam in Goliath

and the quitensential winter cd is Portisheads THIRD, it holds a really high place in my heart because of its ability to keep this haunting emotion throughout the whole thing and beth gibbons vocals are incredibly genuine
If you haven't listened to it you NEED TOOO

What's your Winter cd?

ODDSAC

So the Animal Collective "visual album" ODDSAC is out (I'm suppose to get it on Monday hopefully...)someone ripped the audio and it's AMAZING. It can hold its own as an album. There are some really epic AC songs, the songs are like if Merriweather and Here Comes the Indian had a schizophrenic baby

You gatta check it out:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C8FNUWTZ

Here are my recommended tracks

Mr. Fingers (has such a sick intro)
Screens (sweet Panda Bear soft guitar jam)
Working
Tantrum Barb (pump up song, awesome drums)
What Happened (killer Avey tare song)

CocoRosie

I can't stop listening to CocoRosie it all started after that really amazing show I got to experience
I went back and revisited the albums that I pushed aside years ago, especially The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn. I hated that cd when it first came out cause it was such a weird shift from their older stuff-it seemed too produced and synthy

but it's actually all so good, I don't know what switched in my mind that allowed me to enjoy these tracks but I'm glad it did

here are some of my favorite live CocoRosie videos:

cool interview-they are so weird in everysingle way haha

If you dig it here are their cds

The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn
(synthy rainbow)

Noah's Ark (my favorite cd by them)

La Maison de Mon Reve
(first cd, very acousitc)

Grey Oceans (latest cd-darker than Adventures)

The Underappreciated Albums

So some bands in the past year have become a staple in our music listening sessions. You can't get on pitchfork without seeing a post about at least one of these bands, but all of them became "big" because of their newest releases. Which causes most people to overlook all the other gems hidden in their past discographies.

Here are the under-appreciated albums of this years hyped bands

Lets start with Grizzly Bear, it was their clean and well organized sound on Veckatimest that got them the #8 spot on the Billboard charts

but it's their dark layers and haunting vocals that made me fall in love with them. Horn of Plenty and Sorry for the Delay are great examples of this sound

Sorry for the Delay is a EP that is often overlooked cause it's out of print
This Album is the ultimate dimly lit alleyway with fog rolling in
Sorry for the Delay
Best Songs: Sorry for the Delay, Particular to What, Owner of a Lonely Heart (Yes Cover)

Horn of Plenty is an Ed Droste solo album filled with crazy layers and soundscapes. He recorded the vocals using a tape recorder and then played it into a mic onto protools which is pretty neat
It's got the haunting choir like vocals that grizzly bear is famous for but more lofi
Horn of Plenty
Best Songs: Fix it, A Good Place, Shift, Alligator

I'm trying my best not to post an ungodly amount of Animal Collective related stuff but so many of their albums are unappreciated.

I don't think I would ever be able to pick a definite favorite AC album but if I had to choose it would be Campfire Songs or Strawberry Jam

Campfire songs is an ethereal environment shaped from 5 songs. Layers of guitar drone mesh with the chirping of birds and rain while strained vocals come in and out creating the feeling of being in a park sitting on a bench and staring at the birds

here's some info about how the cd was made "The album comprises five individual songs played back to back and recorded in one take, the recording was made outside on a screen porch in Maryland"

here's what Panda Bear had to say about it
" We had had the idea of doing something really warm and inviting-sounding for a while, like three or four years at least. We wanted it to sound like a campfire feels and I think that also made us think of campfire songs that you can sing with a bunch of people and everybody gets connected and feels good and safe. It really wasn’t spontaneous or improvised [...]. We worked for a month or so to get it just right like the transitions between songs. I still think Queen Of My Pictures into Doggy is one of the best things we’ve done together. I was really excited about my singing on Campfire Songs, I guess because I felt like I was doing things that were difficult for me to do"
Campfire Songs
Best Songs: Doggy, De Soto De Son...all of them

A year after Campfire Songs Panda Bear released Young Prayer. A cd similar to Campfire because of the minimal drony guitar. It sounds like a church choir under water. The tracks all don't have names cause he wanted it to be "one nugget of sound" . This is one of my all time favorite cds and awesome to fall asleep tooo
Young Prayer
Best Songs: Track 5, Track 2...its all good

Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca is an awesome cd, but it totally hides how weird DP actually is. Cds like The Glad Fact and Morning Better Last! are nothing like the warm springy sounds of Bitte Orca.

The Getty Address is the middle point between weird and accesiable. "It is described as "a glitch opera" about musician Don Henley". "The album boasts over 25 musicians on it" I really like this cd, it has some killer tracks
The Getty Address
Best Songs: Warholian Wigs, Tour Along the Potomic, Jolly Jolly Jolly Ego

The Glad Fact and Morning Better Last! are an even crazier cds but less produced
The Glad Fact
Best Songs: My Offwhite Flag, Like Fake Blood, Boredom is a Product, Imaginary Love

Morning Better Last!
Best Songs: The Softer Shell, Grandfathers Jacket, My Brother had a Birthday, Dahlonegabhama

Arthur Russell

I am currently obsessed with this absurdly amazing musician Arthur Russell. He is a celloist/disco/experimental artist from the 70s/80s
His voice sounds like Dave Longstrength (the guy from the Dirty Projectors) but his music is something else
listen to this song you will know what I mean afterwards
04 keeping up by user8438428
07 See Through Love by user8438428

here's a mix of the best of his songs from 5 albums I just downloaded 2 more cds so there will probably be more more more

Arthur Russell pt 2

If you like what you hear in the mixes I suggest you download these cds
World of Echo the cd consist of songs where he plays the cello and sings with heavy reverb it feels like you're floating on some chill waves

Another Thought
: is another great album with a more poppy feel than world of echo

The World of Arthur Russell
pt 1: a compilation of his disco songs
The World of Arthur Russell pt 2

if you want to download the rest of his discography just go here: http://buffalotones.blogspot.com/2009/04/arthur-rusell-discography.html

Hai!

so I started this blog cause I have this overwhelming urge to share music. It's kind of like someone who just found God and wants to spread the word. I get so pumped up about music that I need to expel my ridiculousness somehow and this blog will be the outlet.

soo hopefully this will also be useful to mah friends and I can stop sending stuff individually to people

sooo if you're bored and looking for an auditory fix come here
